You weren’t supposed to know!

✳ Scene: “You Weren’t Supposed to Know”

Marco finds out what Hermes did on the rooftop.

It happens days later.

Marco’s at Laura’s place — incense smoke curling, soft indie music in the background, plants everywhere like green spectators. She’s making tea. He’s poking around the bookshelf, respectfully nosy.

He sees a small folded piece of paper tucked into a journal.
Just barely peeking out.

Marco doesn’t mean to read it.
But then again — curiosity runs in his blood.

He unfolds it.

It’s a sketch. Done in Laura’s handwriting.
A tarot spread from memory.

The Nine of Swords. The Tower. Judgement.
At the bottom:

“Three is a magic number.”

And under that:

“He didn’t want to hurt anyone.
But one still died.
He saved me.
I think it broke him a little.”

Marco blinks. Heart pounding.

He reads it again. And again.

Then closes the paper gently, as if it’s made of something living.

Laura enters, holding mugs.

Sees his face.

Stops.

“…You found it.”

Marco, softly:

“He never told me.”

Laura nods. Quietly.

“He didn’t tell anyone. Not even me.
I saw it in the cards. And in his eyes after.”

Marco sits down slowly. Mug untouched.

“I thought he was just… weird. Funny. Sad.
But this—he’s…”

“A god?” Laura finishes.
“Yeah. But also just a person who keeps showing up too late for the things he loves.”

Later that night, Marco texts him:

“You okay?”

Hermes responds with:

“Always :)”
Then follows with:
“Why?”
“What did you hear lol”
“I’m not in trouble right?”
“…Marco?”

Marco doesn’t answer yet.
He just stares at the screen and thinks:

You almost died saving someone,
and your first instinct is to joke about it.

God, I think I love you.
